Catrin Williams was born and brought up in Bala, North Wales. She studied art at Bangor Technical College and the Institute of Higher education, Cardiff. Catrin Williams' influences has always been her rural up bringing and traditional Welsh culture. Her energetic and colourful style results in certain personal emotions becoming an integral part of the landscape of the finished paintings. She is close to her Welsh roots which she draws upon to inspire her work. Welshness - or rather the exprience of living in Wales - is an obvious theme in her work, her paintings embodies the Welsh dresser, clothes, faces, and family customs. She travels and paints extensively, inspired to paint when travelling subjects reflect her enjoyment in everyday occurrences. Wherever the country and whatever the subject, Catrin fills her paintings with exuberant colour which excites the mind and stimulates the senses. Her works exude happiness, a joy for life and a strong sense of being at home in Wales, and has been described by the famous Welsh artist Sir Kyffin Williams as "the best abstract artist working in Wales"
