Artists paint what we love, what obsesses us. It is clear for all to see where my obsessions lie: in our Western coastal landscapes of Wales, Scotland and Ireland. For me this is equally matched by a love of intense colour and the expressive possibilities of paint and mark making. The exploration and balance of these elements is where my work starts. There is however a balance to be found in my working practice too: that between immersion in the landscape, and just as importantly, a separation from the source, back in the studio where the creative power of memory takes precedence.
