SARAH CARVELL
My chosen subject matter tends to be the landscape that surrounds me here in North Wales, although I do have other ‘favourite haunts’ including St Ives in Cornwall which I visit several times a year. Inspiration is gleaned from the effect of changing weather conditions on the landscape. I enjoy the painting challenge of the colour and contrast of shadow and light. More recently I have sought the smaller landscape, the more unremarkable, focussing on subjects such as allotments, sheds and buildings, illuminated by low sunlight. I work from my studio in Denbigh painting mainly in oil paint which I apply in thick swathes and blocks. Over the years I have found inspiration in the work of a number of artists, more recently to include, David Bomberg, Nicolas de Stael and Edward Hopper. Sarah Carvell 2016
