SOL WHITESIDE
Sol.W.Whiteside is a self-taught artist from Uk Wales. From an early age, his passion for nature and wildlife became evident and ever since has been the bases of his work. He began drawing at 10 years old, and was often influenced by many childhood books. Some of these books that still to this day are re-visited include “Swedish Folk Tales” by John Bauer, “Grimms’ Fairy Tales” by J.L.C and W.C. Grimm, “The Tomten and the Fox” Astrid Lindgren and Harald Wiberg, and the many illustrations of Arthur Rackham. After completing his A’Levels, Sol chose to study a foundation year at “The Cardiff Arts Academy”. A few months into the course he began to experiment with various ideas and materials under the influence of nature. It was then that Sol began concentrating on the movement and characteristics of wildlife and continuously dwelled into the ways in which he could represent the beauty of them. Sol’s style resides around the idea of exaggerated realism and often has a consistent feeling of tranquility and calmness. The smooth looking drawings are created with a mix of marker pens, chalk, and acrylic. His paintings, although not as frequent also show a clear understanding to the attention to detail, these are created using Acrylic paint.
