I'm a self taught colourist, painting landscapes and still life in oil, acrylic or egg tempera. When I turned 40, I started to focus more on painting, thinking "what are you waiting for?" I have tried to use colours to carry meaning or emotion. Returning many times to the same places in the west of England and Wales, I take away imprints in my mind for me to work with. I'm drawn to areas where the exposed landscape is prominent, and this is more strongly seen in the colder months. With the still life work, I'm depicting assemblages of things that make me happy. Much of this reflects the seasons. My bolder extrovert flower paintings have been a means to express my optimism, and a sense of great joy in nature. Painting is my way to chronicle the meaningful things, instinctively. If any of my work gives pleasure to another person, then I'm very pleased. Glenn Carney 2024
