MIKE JONES
Mike Jones (1941-2022) lived and painted in the Swansea Valley and earned his reputation for evocative portrayals of the Welsh landscape. His impressive interpretations range from fishing boats in the docks of Swansea to the men and women of the valleys and the isolated hill farms and cottages in the Black Mountains. Will Roberts said of him "I have been familiar with Mike Jones' work for some years, finding it always good, always imaginative. A talented and sensitive painter, he must stand well now with the better Welsh painters" (WR June 1997) Josef Herman also thought highly of Mike Jones, he said "I am impressed with the textures of his oil pastels. The figures in black and white stay on in my mind. Like most Welshmen I know, he is very modest, so I will spell it out - he is extremely gifted" (JH August 1998)
