From my earliest memory, the West and South Wales coast has been an important part of my life. The energy and power of the storms and tidal surges along the rocky coastline, seem to me a representation of the life force itself, and the aim is to capture that intensity. I don’t work from photographs, so my paintings are not of specific locations. I hope, however, they evoke a memory, experience or mood in the viewer. The painting itself will be changed many times during the process, and will often be very different from my initial idea. The development of the piece is purely intuitive, and I usually work on several canvasses at a time. The medium I work with, on my seascapes and landscapes, is mostly acrylic – both paint and ink.
