"To rekindle the enthusiasm I once had for painting, I returned to West Wales in 2014 to recapture my roots and the stunning surroundings I yearned for. Now I feel very privileged to share the 'passion' I have for painting once more." Very early on in life, I realised that art in some form or another would play an important part in my life. And it has. I studied graphic design at Ravensbourne College of Art & Design in Bromley between 1968-1971 and after a short spell working for an advertising agency in London, I eventually formed my own graphic design consultancy in Cardiff. Whilst practising as a graphic designer I continued to have a strong passion to paint, but found little time to pursue this interest. However, a change in direction finally materialised and following a move to West Wales it has been exciting to be able to rekindle the enthusiasm I had for painting many years ago. This recent transformation has enabled me to be creative in a very different way. By using a very different medium, no computers just simply canvas, oil paints and a collection of palette knives, I find the whole experience so refreshing and at the same time, so inspiring. Based on scenes along the beautiful Welsh coastline, most of my work reflects a sense of being so much part of a place and I try to capture that 'spirit' in the way I paint. It is very compelling and although each place is unique, they all have distinctive characteristics and that is what motivates me to paint. Vyvyan Davies 2019
